Allow me to introduce Skopski Pazar A.D. Skopje, a firm that has successfully existed for more than fifty-four years on the territory of the capital Skopje. Since the establishment of the firm in 1952, until today, Skopski Pazar has grown into a company which successfully exists not only in the sphere of commerce but also in the area of service trade. Skopski Pazar A.D. is a company for services in the fields of markets, commerce, business premises and catering. Its activities, funds and services cover the entire territory of the capital Skopje, which is incomparable to any other company. Proof of the extraordinary results and the dedication of the company to good quality is the certificate ISO 9002 from BSI (British Standard Institute), which the company has gained. Other companies, bigger than Skopski Pazar have also celebrated the great jubilee of fifty-five years successful existence, but the greatness of Skopski Pazar is that those have been fifty-five years of continuing tradition, guild and thrifty work.

Everyone who has worked in Skopski Pazar has left a part of themselves in this company; the ones who create and develop its contemporary existence today do the same; and I am certain that the generations to come will embed a part of themselves as well. Today, Skopski Pazar is a private joint-stock enterprise for services in the field of trade and retail markets, with more than 470 employees. Respecting the rules of fair and correct economic activities, it has grown into the biggest and the most contemporary company in the capital of the Republic of Macedonia, taking care of the retail markets, where the citizens of Skopje buy their fruit, vegetables and other articles every day.

The green markets, or more precisely the services at the green markets were the central activity of this company until recently. At the moment Skopski Pazar manages 16 green and 1 livestock market. The entire area of the markets is over 100,000 square meters, with over 2,620 sales outlets, 2433 of which are stalls. There, most of the products of the Macedonian agricultural productions are sold, as well as farm produce from all over the world. Apart from the 70 employees in this activity in Skopski Pazar A.D. Skopje, around 4,000 people earn their living here, at the markets. Together with them are their families (an average of 4 members), which means that over 16,000 citizens of the capital and of the entire state make their living from the activities at these markets.

The trade activity is now the main activity of the company, in terms of size. At the moment Skopski Pazar has five modern supermarkets under the name SP Market, 12 discounts under the name Maksi D, 2 furniture shops, one specialized shop for textile, a beauty center Unique and two catering places, one of which, the restaurant “14” has gained the reputation of one of the most respectable restaurants in Skopje. SP Markets and Maksi D discounts became a trademark for good and quality supply to the citizens of Skopje with food as well as other products. Proof of the professional work of the SP Markets is the prize for best-organized retail places and the best management team in commerce, in the form of the statue Merkur, issues by the Economic Chamber in Skopje, which this market has received two times in a row.

Skopski Pazar became an unavoidable part of the contemporary history of the Macedonian metropolis. It is also part of the people living in Skopje, who know how to appreciate the tradition of guild and thrift. That is why it seemed natural for the markets’ slogan to be: Welcome neighbour!

This very simple and natural, but at the same time full of emotions message and greeting is the best definition of what Skopski Pazar represents: closest to the respected customers, living with them and their day-to-day life, always there to offer the best for them, and most importantly, we are an exclusively domestic-Macedonian enterprise which started spreading into other major towns in the Republic such as Ohrid, Bitola and Kavadarci two years ago.

With the development strategy of the company we predict its expansion in new activities and enlargement of the capacity of the existing ones through permanent investments in upgrading and modernization of the activities. In this regard, I would like to emphasis that in the last six years, Skopski Pazar has increased the number of employees from 189 in 1997 to over 470 in 2006.

At the same time, by means of permanent investment in all the activities, we have fourfold enlarged the capital of the company.

In addition to this we have constantly invested in education of our employees, by organizing special courses and seminars, depending on the activities their jobs require.

Our intention is to continue in this manner.
